The AmeriCorps VISTA Program is a national service program designed to alleviate poverty with over 75,000 Americans joining each year. AmeriCorps VISTA Members make a year-long, full-time commitment and Americorps VISTA Associates commit to 10 weeks in the summer to serve on a project at a nonprofit organization such as WAFCC, a Wisconsin free and charitable clinic, or a Public Health Department. With passion, commitment, and hard work, VISTAs bring individuals and communities out of poverty while improving access to quality health care.
WAFCC VISTA Members and Associates help create access to quality health care for the uninsured and underserved populations in Wisconsin. They focus their efforts on building organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of the safety-net. Projects may include reducing substance/opiate abuse, implementing Standards of Excellence, researching grants, and gathering data on social determinants of health.
